Tapestry is an ancient art dating back over 2000 years, most prominent in the UK and Europe during the Middle Ages when barons and knights would adorn their castle walls for both decoration and warmth. A tapestry is created by stretching plain warp threads on a loom to form a grid, then weaving colored weft threads in and out to build up the complete design. Signare's production method uses modern mechanical looms to greatly speed up this process, which used to take weeks or months by hand.
A special characteristic of each Signare bag is that it is unique. "Signare" means "Signature" in Latin, and the company wishes every customer to possess their own individual signature bag. The artwork featured on this particular tapestry design is licensed from UK-based graphic artist and illustrator Marilyn Robertson. Marilyn started as an art teacher and has since built a global reputation, with her work collected worldwide.
One of Marilyn's most popular design collections is Catitudes, depicting funky, self-confident cats enjoying the high life. Our Catitude design is a creative interplay of color, line, and form featuring Jasper-the-Cat with his friends Thomas, Felix, and Sebastian.
